The rain we’ve had near the headwaters of the Whanganui River over the weekend has made the awa fuller than usual, but the water level begun dropping overnight and will continue to do so following high tide this morning. As a precaution, the Kowhai Park gates will be shut until around 10.00am today as the water is lapping onto the road. Whanganui District Council and Horizons teams as well the rural fire people from Fire and Emergency New Zealand kept an eye on the situation overnight.
